These natural round agate formations from Brazil are called by a number of different names: chalcedony rose, snake agate, and conchas. The specimens have one side with tiny drusy quartz crystals that formed in a radially grown pattern. These Agate Conchas make fine additions to your mineral collection. The unusual shapes are often wire wrapped and made into many jewelry items. The stone itself is of chalcedony agate and has the sparkling drusy quartz crystals. The agate conchas are quite showy when held in the sun.
Agate is a variety of quartz which has a hardness of 7 on the mohs scale. Quartz is found in many varieties like jasper, flint, chert, amethyst, citrine, quartzite, agate, feldspar, rose quartz, smoky quartz, milky quartz, sard, onyx, heliotrope, tiger's eye, prasiolite, and aventurine.
Chalcedony agate pieces formed
into round or oblong swirls with beautiful, tiny, drusy quartz
crystals on their face which sparkle in the light.
