Orthoceris, Large, Polished, Morocco

azurite specimen - Great South Gems and Minerals

Both the orthoceris and ammonite had a head and front body portion that would have looked very similar to a modern-day squid, with grasping "arms" and tentacles. Modern cephalopods are the squid, octopus, cuttlefish and nautiloid. Only the Nautilus today has a shell.

F1735b - Orthoceris, Large, Polished, Morocco.

A large display specimen of an extinct cephalopod. The Orthoceris existed from the Lower ordovician Through Upper Triassic. 350 million to 190 million years ago.
