Hydrated calcium silico-borate. Hardness 3-1/2. Howlite develops in evaporite deposits in sedimentary rocks and usually occurs with ulexite and
colemanite as nodules in clay. A member of the Borates family. Howlite is often died blue and made to look like turquoise. As a matter of fact there
is a large amount of died Howlite on the market that is being sold as turquoise. Can be cut and polished into cabochons although it is a little soft for this purpose.
