Moldavite is a very rare mineral found only in
several small sites in the Bohemia and Moravia regions of the Czech
Republic and is named after the Moldau River, the site where it was first
discovered. Moldavite has been called the rarest mineral in the world,
rarer than diamonds. These specimens are NOT broken pieces or chips. They
are whole stones. Beautiful. Good price on these.

Czech Republic
Moldavite is a natural glass,
created some 14.8 to 15 million years ago when a very large meteorite
struck the earth in what is now the Czech Republic. Moldavite is
classified in the tektite family with a hardness of about 6 to 7 and is
the only known tektite with a clarity which permits it to be cut into
faceted gem stones. The beautiful green translucent color was produced by
the presence of iron in combination with aluminum.
