![]() Vanadinite is an important source of Vanadium (element #23 on the periodic table). Vanadium is used mostly as an alloy in special steels and in the manufacture of permanent magnets. Vanadinite is also a minor ore of lead. These specimens are from Morocco. |
M509 - Morocco Hardness 3. Lead chlorovanadate, sometimes with small amount of arsenic. Beautiful red hexagonal, flat pedal-like crystals. Unusually large crystals. Vanadinite is a secondary mineral and generally develops in the zone of alteration in massive hydrothermal replacement deposits, where it is associated with galena, wulfenite, and barite.
