M372 -
Chrysocolla is a hydrated copper silicate mineral that has a blue-green color and is a minor ore of copper, having a hardness of 2.5 to 3.5. The name comes from the Greek chrysos, meaning "gold", and kolla, meaning "glue", in allusion to the name of the material used to solder gold, and was first used by Theophrastus in 315 BCE.
Chrysocolla is of secondary origin and forms in the oxidation zones of copper ore bodies. Associated minerals are quartz, limonite, azurite, malachite, cuprite, and other secondary copper minerals. Because of its light color, it is sometimes confused with turquoise.
From a metaphysical aspect, it is said that chrysocolla has many beneficial energies. It is known as a healing stone among Native American Indian cultures where it was used for strengthening the body's resistance to bringing about calm feeling where there is upset. Among others it is believed to promote levels of headedness, encouraging clarity of thought and a neutral, cool attitude during turbulence, and to decrease nervousness and irritability. It is said to be a stone of peace, increasing wisdon and discretion.
