M250 - Orthoclase - Moonstone (India).

Potassium aluminum silicate. Hardness 6 to 6-1/2. Moonstone is the birthstone for June. Moonstone is used as a gemstone.
It is a member of the feldspar group, which includes amazonite,
adularia, labradorite, albite, sanidine, and orthoclase. Moonstone occurs in pegmatites. Moonstone is a transparent to translucent gemstone variety of adularia with yellowish brown to bluish white sheen. Orthoclase, among other uses, is used in dental porcelain - teeth! These specimens are not gem quality, but make great specimens for the rock/mineral collection.
