Quartz - Strawberry (Africa)

azurite specimen - Great South Gems and Minerals

Quartz, in all its varieties, has a conchoidal fracture and, as a result, was used by early man in making arrowheads and many other tools. Flint and chert are also members of the quartz family.

M147 - Quartz - Strawberry (Africa).

Quartz - Silicon dioxide. Hardness 7. Most unusual color for quartz, even that found in its massive state. Looks to be a cross
between an amethyst and citrine. Very unusual. This is not a color
of quartz normally found in nature. This material would be good for
lapidary work, like cabbing, or for tumbling. Not a very exciting
mineral specimen, although it can be a desired mineral in any rock
collection due to its rarity.

Quartz is the most common of minerals on the face of the earth. The sand on all the beaches and the sand in all the deserts of the world are mostly made of quartz. Quartz in its many varities - amethyst, citrine, rose quartz, smoky quartz, carnelian, and tigereye are used as a gemstone. Quartz sand is used in making glass.
