M1188 -
Large Agate / Quartz geode halves from Brazil
Agate nodule with tiny cavity, or pocket, called a vug. Like bug
with a "v". When a specimen has a tiny cavity, or pocket, it is not
referred to as a geode. It is a nodule, normally referring to a
solid specimen. In this case it has just a tiny cavity.
The colors are dark grays around the outer part with lots of natureal
banding. Toward the center the grays are lighter. Toward the center
is almost a yellowish agate and right in the center the agate is
almost clear. The little cavity in the stone has tiny quartz
crystals called drusy.
This specimen measures 6- 1/4" wide and is 4- 1/4 " tall. It weight 4 lbs.
