Chrysanthemum Stone
Beautiful specimens of what
has become known as Chrysanthemum Stone. This very unusual material
is composed of dolomite, gypsum- bearing clay, limestone, or porphyry
with lath-like crystals of andalusite, celestite,
feldspar, or calcite which are grouped into a natural crystal
pattern resembling blooming Chrysanthemum flowers.
From Hunan, China, this material is taken from
large boulders of a dark gray or black Limestone
matrix that has these beautiful flower-like
patterns of andalusite inside. As the name
implies, it is shaped like a Chrysanthemum, the
official symbol of the Imperial Family of China.
