Porphory - Chrysanthemum Stone - Writing Rock
A limestone matrix with andalusite crystals. It is also called
Porphory. This stone very closely resembles the stone called Chrysanthemum Stone that is coming out of China. This stone received
its name Chinese Writing Rock because of the crystalline structure resembling the Chinese characters of the written language.
The colors in these specimens are a dark gray matrix, almost black,
with white crystals of andalusite. Great contrast. Hardness 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale.
