Amazonite Stone Egg - Amazonite

Gemstone quality Amazonite, medium to dark green color with contrasting white streaks. Some of the finest non-crystals amazonite we've been able to obtain. Good material for tumbling and lapidary work. This material would make great looking cabochons. Amazonite is relatively soft at 5 to 6 on the Mohs hardness scale. In comparison, quartz in all it varieties is 7 on the Mohs scale. Amazonite is a gem variety of microcline feldspar.

Amazonite is a member of the feldspar family which includes: Albite, Amazonite, Andesine, Anorthite, Bytownite, Heliolite (Sunstone), Hyalophane, Labradorite, Moonstone, Oligoclase or India Sunstones, Oregon Sunstone, Orthoclase, Red Labradorite, and Sanidine.

Amazonite is found in a light, pale-green, a yellow-green, to a blue-green. It is believed that the blue-green color of Amazonite is the results from small quantities of lead and water in the feldspar. (Hoffmeister and Rossman, 1985)
