Chrysanthemum Stone - dolomite - limestone

Beautiful specimens of what has become known as Chrysanthemum Stone. This very unusual stone is composed of dolomite, gypsum- bearing clay, limestone, or porphyry with lath-like crystals of andalusite, celestite, feldspar, or calcite which are grouped into a natural crystal pattern resembling blooming Chrysanthemum flowers.

From Hunan, China, this material is taken from large boulders of a dark gray or black Limestone matrix that has these beautiful flower-like patterns of andalusite inside. As the name implies, it is shaped like a Chrysanthemum, the official symbol of the Imperial Family of China.

Normally the diameter of the flower ranges from 5 to 8 cm with the maximum being 50cm, The "flowers" are varied in shape with their petals stretching out freely in different attitudes.The "Chrysanthemum Stones" contains more than ten kinds of trace elements such as Selenium, Strontium, Gold, Silver and Bismuth.They are considered to be of Permian age (approx. 250 million years).
