Gorgeous light to medium blue gem-quality Aquamarine crystals. A variety of Beryl. Birthstone for March. Hardness 7-1/2 to 8 on Mohs scale. Harder than quartz, a silicon dioxide. Hexagonal crystal system. Aquamarine is the blue, or perhaps more correctly, blue-green or aqua variety of the mineral BERYL. Other colors of beryl are simply referred to by their color, such as red beryl. Aquamarine is colored by trace amounts of iron. It is a common practice to heat-treat aquamarine crystals to either change of enhance the color. Aquamarine is used primarily as a gemstone. Aluminium cyclosilicate.

Varieties of BERYL are: Aquamarine and maxixe, red berylo, Emeralds, Golden beryl and heliodor, Goshenite and Morganite.
