druse quartz slabs - Silicon Dioxide - Quartz druse

Silicon Dioxide. Quartz druse. Hardness 7. Beautiful druse quartz slabs from Missouri. These specimens were surface collected about 30 years ago on farms and fields in Central Missouri.

The top surface of these great looking pieces are covered with tiny quartz crystals that really sparkle in the sun. The edges of each specimen shows the layering of the quartz/silica material that was deposited over extremely long periods of time. These druse quartz slabs were formed from water percolating through the soil, where it picked up the silica, and deposited it in a cave or cavity environment. The water then dripped from the roof of the cave or cavity. The silica mineral was deposited in layers at the roof on the cavity or cave. Turn the specimen over and you can plainly see the surface of where it was attached to the roof of the cavity or cave.
