golden tigereye - anniversary gemstone - crocidorite

Unusual and beautifully cut specimens of golden Tigereye. Measurements are: 7/8" thick X 1-5/15" wide X 2-1/4" long. They look like smooth rounded pillows. Good polish. The predominant color on these is golden tigereye, however a few has a bluish tint to some areas of the stone. Nice color play. Tigereye is commonly found in golden color, a bluish color, and a dark reddish color.

Tigereye is a quartz that contains oriented fibers of crocidorite that have been replaced by silica. Tigereye has alternating bands of yellow or brown. Tigereye is the anniversary gemstone for the 9th year of marriage. Tigereye starts out as the asbestos mineral Crocidorite and is then replaced by silica.

Tigereye in its variation of colors has been used as semi-precious gemstones for many years. Beads, cabochons, carvings, and even faceted stones of tigereys is very popular today. Once cut, tigereye shows a beautiful display of alternating light and has a naturas sheen.
