Gemstone, Garnets, Pyrope, Almandine, Spessartine, Grossular, Andradite, Uvarovite, Aluminum silicates, Calcium silicates
Gorgeous orange looking garnet crystals on a white matrix. Great contrast in colors. Nice specimens. First time we've had these.
The word "GARNET" refers to a group of very closely related aluminum silicates and calcium silicates. The aluminum silicates includes the Pyrope, Almandine, and Spessartine. The calcium silicates include Grossular, Andradite, and Uvarovite. Hardness 6-1/2 to 7-1/2.
Some garnets are of igneous origin, but most of them are products of metamorphism. Garnets are used as gemstones and as an abrasive used in grinding and polishing because of its hardness. Isometric crystal system.
