F811-N -
Eocrinoid in gray shale, Utah
These small, 2" to 3", early echinoderms usually had an elongate, tapering stalk, though a few were stemless. The eocrinoids were never very diverse bud did live for more than 200 million years, from the Early Cambrian to the Silurion. We certainly can't argue against their success. The Eocrinoid specimens are much more rarer than their cousins the Crinoids. These specimens are from the Cambrian period - About 500 million years old. From the mountains of Utah.
From Utah.
