old). Utah. Gastropods are the most diverse and abundant mollusks and
occur in marine, freshwater, and terrestrial environments.
The gastropod shell is secreted by the
mantle and forms a hollow cone regularly increasing in width from its
first-formed point, the apex of the shell, to the aperture where the
head-foot mass protrudes.
