24 Piece flat of a dark blue sodalite from Brazil. Great
Sodium aluminum silicate with chlorine, 5.5 to 6 hardness. Sodalite
is so named in allusion to its sodium content and is used as a
semi-precious gemstone. Great for carvings, beads, and other
lapidary work. Sodalite was first discovered in 1806 in
Greenland. Vast deposits of fine sodalite was discovered in Ontario,
Canada in 1891. Sodalite typically forms in massive formations as
vein fillings in plutonic igneous rocks such as nepheline
syenites. It is associated with other minerals typical of
undersaturated environments, namely leucite, cancrinite and natrolite.
